How to Install Texture Packs

Follow these step-by-step instructions to install texture packs on Java Edition or Bedrock Edition.

Java Edition

1

Download the texture pack

Download the .zip file for the texture pack you want to install. Do not extract the zip file.

2

Open Minecraft Java Edition

Launch Minecraft Java Edition and go to the main menu.

3

Go to Options > Resource Packs

Click Options, then Resource Packs. You will see a list of available and active packs.

4

Open the resource packs folder

Click 'Open Pack Folder' at the bottom of the screen. This opens the resourcepacks directory.

5

Move the zip file

Copy or move the downloaded .zip file into the resourcepacks folder.

6

Activate the pack

Go back to Minecraft. The pack should appear in the 'Available' column. Click the arrow to move it to 'Selected'.

7

Done

Click 'Done' and the texture pack will be applied to your game. You may need to restart for some packs.

Bedrock Edition

1

Download the texture pack

Download the .mcpack file for the texture pack you want to install.

2

Open the file

Double-click or tap the .mcpack file. Minecraft Bedrock Edition should open automatically and import the pack.

3

Apply to a world

Go to Settings > Global Resources to apply the pack to all worlds, or edit a specific world and go to Resource Packs.

4

Activate the pack

Find the pack in 'My Packs' and tap Activate. Move it to the top of the list for priority.

5

Done

The texture pack is now active. Enter your world to see the changes.

Tips

  • Higher resolution packs (128x and above) may require OptiFine, Iris, or Sodium for smooth performance.
  • Always back up your worlds before installing new packs, especially if using packs with custom models.
  • You can stack multiple texture packs. Packs higher in the list take priority for overlapping textures.
  • If a pack looks broken, check that it matches your Minecraft version. Newer packs may not work with older versions.
  • For the best experience with realistic packs, use a shader pack alongside your texture pack.
  • Some packs include OptiFine-only features like connected textures (CTM). These require OptiFine to work.
