One pack on this site runs below vanilla's own 16x grid: Rodrigo's Pack, made by Rodrigo. It is rated low performance impact, since a smaller-than-vanilla grid costs less to draw, not more.
Rodrigo's Pack is a cartoon pack and covers Minecraft 1.8 through 1.16.5 on Java. This is the lightest resolution on the site: nothing published here goes smaller.
There is no hardware this resolution asks you to have. A grid under vanilla's own 16x costs less to draw than default Minecraft does, so an 8x pack is the right pick for a machine that already struggles at vanilla settings, not just for the chunky look itself.
A texture at 8x is 8 pixels on a side, which makes 64 pixels on a block face where vanilla's 16x has 256. Of the 662 block textures Rodrigo's Pack replaces, 583 are drawn at 8 pixels and 79 at the full 16.
Rodrigo's Pack lists 1.16.5 as the newest version it supports, 33 releases behind Minecraft 26.2. Blocks added after that, such as amethyst and azalea from 1.17, have no texture in the pack, so the game draws them with its own 16 pixel textures next to the 8 pixel ones.
